About The Role

We are excited to advertise for an Energy Support Officer to join our committed and high valued staff Energy Team. We are looking for a self‑motivated and enthusiastic support officer who can meet the challenge of enhancing Hounslow's environment and improving the energy efficiency of the council’s corporate estate.

You will be responsible for assisting the Energy Manager and the Project Managers to effectively and efficiently deliver with a particular focus on reporting, supporting project governance and the operational delivery of energy efficiency projects.

You must have excellent oral and written communication skills and will provide transactional services associated with utility contracts for billing purposes, billing validation, invoice query management, providing support as and when required.

You will demonstrate an understanding of the relevant environmental legislation appropriate to the public sector and the local community and be willing to work as part of a team as well as on your own using your own initiative.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work effectively as part of the Council’s Energy team, delivering objectives set out in the Corporate Plan and the Climate Emergency Action Plan.
  • Assist in energy and carbon reporting across an array of statutory, mandatory and voluntary environmental reporting requirements associated with the energy purchasing contract and the Climate Emergency Action Plan.
  • Ensure all relevant performance data is recorded for detailed analysis to support the decision‑making process for effective and efficient contract management.
  • Provide transactional services associated with utility contracts for billing purposes, bill validation, invoice query management and providing support as and when required.
  • Manage the administration of relevant tasks and projects relating to the team whilst offering support and guidance.
  • Support the daily management operations of the Energy Team and work flexibly across other departments whilst building effective working relationships with colleagues across the Council and in partner organisations.

Qualifications

Demonstrable work‑based experience that evidences an equivalent level of attainment and competence with a willingness to engage in continuous professional development.

About You
  • Capable individual with enthusiasm, ambition and skills to help support the Energy Team manage the utility contracts and deliver decarbonisation projects.
  • Experience of providing support to environmental and energy related projects in a complex organization and able to take concepts, make connections, assess impacts and develop actions. Working on a range of innovative decarbonisation projects that feature as part of the Council’s environmental programmes.
  • Excellent communication skills – able to engage with complex concepts and issues and communicate them clearly and simply.
  • Highly organised with an attention to detail and able to support the daily management operations of the energy team and work flexibly across other departments as required.
  • Excellent IT skills across the core Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams etc).
  • Understand the complexity and support the delivery of projects and programmes with residents and staff.
