As an Energy Analyst, you will play a crucial role in a customer-facing consultancy role in energy and utilities. The geographic focus of this role is the GB electricity market. Montel is active and growing in all European electricity markets and there will also be opportunities to collaborate with Montel teams working on projects for clients in other European countries.

Job Location

The role can be partly home-based, but we will require substantial time in the Stockton-on-Tees office. There will also be scope for European travel. We are building a strong team, which requires us working together frequently, so all team members can benefit from the experience and insight of others.

The role

Montel’s GB Consultancy team provide analytics and consultancy support to a range of clients that are active in or seeking to enter the GB electricity market. Projects typically include:

  • Experience in asset optimisation.
  • Benchmarking studies for owners of dispatchable assets such as gas engines and BESS units.
  • Long-term revenue forecasts and investment appraisal analysis for dispatchable assets.
  • Due diligence advisory support.
  • PPA evaluation.
  • Evaluation of business cases for a range of energy transition projects (industrial energy consumption; demand-side response; hydrogen).
  • Analysis of business cases for participation in various segments of the ancillary services market.
  • Market entry studies including corresponding regulatory frameworks.
  • Private-wire feasibility studies.
  • Analysis of interconnector flows.
What we are looking for
  • Educated to degree level in a numerate discipline with experience in commercial roles in the GB electricity market.
  • Strong numerical skills around analysing and understanding data.
  • Knowledge of regulatory regimes in European energy markets.
  • Understanding of how traded energy markets work and the terminology and operational requirements to trade electricity in wholesale, balancing, capacity and ancillary services markets. Knowledge of subsidy regimes applicable to renewables. Deep knowledge of the GB electricity market and evidence that this knowledge can be extended to others as European markets become more converged.
  • Good report writing skills, explaining complex concepts in clear and concise written form. Ability to communicate complex subjects and their dependencies to non-experts in a simple and accessible manner.
  • Presentation skills, comfortable with speaking in public.
  • Committed to delivering high quality output that is valued by clients. Results‑focussed and self‑managing with ability to prioritise and work independently.
  • Willingness to travel.
We offer
  • Salary: Competitive (negotiable depending on experience).
  • Hybrid and flexible working.
  • 25 days annual holiday.
  • Company pension.
  • Opportunities for career growth and plenty of training opportunities.
