A regional health services provider in the UK is looking for an Endoscopy Staff Nurse / ODP to ensure high standards of patient care during endoscopic procedures. Endoscopy Staff Nurse / ODP

The main purpose of the job is to ensure the provision of the highest standard of direct patient care for patients undergoing a range of endoscopic procedures. The post holder will be required to assist the Endoscopist and support patients, with emphasis on patient safety and dignity during all aspects of endoscopy procedures.

The post holder will ensure effective communication and education in health promotion which reflects the quality standards and mission of the University Health Board. In the absence of the Unit Sister/Deputy Sister the post holder may have responsibility for the operational management of the endoscopy unit.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures are observed and meet the organisation's requirements in accordance with agreed protocols.

As part of the South East Regional Endoscopy plan, the post holder may be expected to work across site (Royal Glamorgan Hospital / Princess of Wales Hospital) or cross‑border work in the neighbouring Powys Health board.

Working week is over 7 days and the post holder will be expected to be allocated on weekend shifts - and appropriate days off will be allocated during the week - Rotational basis.

Main duties of the job
  • Be responsible for the management of a caseload of patients under the supervision of the person in charge of the Endoscopy Department and occasionally the department and its resources during their period of duty.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the standards of patient care set by the ward/department.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures are observed.
  • Be responsible for the support and supervision of junior staff.
  • Be responsible for providing accurate, current, comprehensive and concise records concerning the condition of the client.
  • Liaise with the appropriate Clinical Specialists i.e. Doctors and Clinical Nurse Specialists in relation to individual patient requirements.
  • Maintain all equipment in good working order to ensure maximum efficiency and to minimise cost. To ensure effective and efficient control of stock levels, with regard to cost and expiry dates.
  • The post holder will contribute to the Out of Hours on‑call rota to support consultant staff managing emergency care of patients deemed by the on‑call consultant to require intervention. The on‑call is a 24/7 rota. The post holder will be supported by an experienced Endoscopy nurse whilst training, but on completion of competencies will be independent.

  • Evidence of at least five days study having been undertaken in the past two years.
  • Experience of endoscopy/gastroenterology units.
Skills
  • Welsh language skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are desirable for this role.
