Job summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Endoscopy Nurse to join the NHS Professionals roster in the Endoscopy Unit at Southampton General Hospital. You will care for patients before, during and after endoscopic procedures, and support the team to maintain safety and infection control.

Shifts run Monday to Friday, 8am–8pm, with two to three days per week. You must hold NMC registration and have at least 12 months' endoscopy nursing experience in the UK

Qualifications

• Qualified registered nurse with NMC registration.
• Endoscopy nursing experience is required.
• Experience in the UK within the past three years is preferred.

• Assess, monitor and support patients before, during and after procedures.

Job description

This is a bank Endoscopy Nurse post with NHS Professionals, working for University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust in the endoscopy department at Southampton General Hospital. The nurse cares for patients before, during and after endoscopic procedures, assists the endoscopist and wider team, and keeps the unit safe and infection-controlled. Shifts run Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm, with a commitment of two to three days a week. Applicants need NMC registration and at least 12 months' endoscopy nursing experience in the UK within the past three years.

What the job involves

• Provide safe, compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures
• Assess, monitor and support patients before, during and after procedures
• Assist the endoscopist and multidisciplinary team across diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
• Maintain patient safety, infection prevention and clinical governance, complying with health, safety and privacy standards
• Take part in teaching, supervision and developing colleagues and students
• Promote a positive patient experience and contribute to developing the Endoscopy Service
• Explain procedures and answer patient questions before endoscopy
• Administer sedatives and IV drips at the start of endoscopy
• Clean, sterilise and organise endoscopy equipment
• Monitor patient vital signs during and after procedures
• Give discharge instructions to patients before they leave
• Update patient records

• At least 12 months' experience as an Endoscopy Nurse in the UK within the past three years

• Available to work two to three days a week
