Job description
Overview

The Decontamination Team member will support the process of endoscope decontamination for all flexible endoscopes used in the hospital’s departments. The role operates on a rotational seven‑day service, covering weekdays, bank holidays, evenings, and weekends, under the direction of the Unit Manager, Assistant Manager, Team Lead or Supervisors. This is not a patient‑facing role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with manual cleaning and processing of all types of endoscopes.
  • Follow local and national guidelines, standards and policies for endoscope decontamination.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all endoscope types and their clinical use.
  • Operate automated endoscope washer‑disinfectors and complete manufacturer training.
  • Provide clerical support to ensure the efficient running of the department.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and non‑verbally, within the team.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Knowledge of endoscope design, construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of decontamination principles.
  • Strong verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality and training.
