Job summary

Prospero Teaching are partnered with Local Councils, SEND teams and Schools throughout the UK, and we are seeking Functional Skills Tutors in Newcastle to work 1-1 or in small groups with students not currently in full-time education.

Sessions are face-to-face in community settings, schools or homes, with up to 15 hours per week and pay up to £30 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. The role offers ongoing work starting September 2026.

Qualifications

• Previous experience with functional skills.
• Right to work in the UK.
• DBS certificate with online update service or willingness to apply.
• Able to reference the last two years of education/employment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition in Functional Skills Maths and/or English.
• Develop and implement personalised lesson plans addressing learning gaps.
• Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students and families.
• Create a supportive learning environment to rebuild confidence.
• Complete daily attendance and weekly reports.
