Job summary

Halton Borough Council is seeking an Employment Specialist to deliver information, advice and guidance to Halton residents within the Employment, Learning and Skills division. You will work with individuals facing health conditions, disabilities or complex barriers and manage a varied caseload in a supportive, local government setting.

You will use CV writing and interview preparation knowledge to help clients progress towards employment, signposting to specialist organisations as needed, and

Qualifications

  • Experience providing information, advice and guidance to job seekers.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload of customers aged 16+.
  • Knowledge of CV writing, job searching techniques and effective interview preparation.
  • Experience in welfare-to-work or health-related support contexts is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide bespoke employment support for individuals with health conditions, disabilities and/or complex barriers.
  • Manage a diverse caseload and maximise turnover of appointments to support progression to work.
  • Develop knowledge of local partners and signpost/refer to appropriate support services; keep CRM records up to date.
  • Support individuals to progress towards employment through tailored packages.

Our Team:

Halton People into Jobs (Halton Borough Council) offers a range of services to help local residents address barriers to employment i.e. debt/money advice, health improvement, training, skills for life. Advisors/Key Workers also help participants accesssupport through a network of expert specialist organisations.

Your Contributions:

We are looking for a committed, experienced and qualified Employment Specialist to work within the Council’s Employment, Learning and Skills division. The successful candidate will provide quality information, advice and guidance to Halton residents and be able to demonstrate experience of working within a similar role or have the transferable skills outlined within the specification. Experience of providing advice/guidance in another similar sector may be considered if clear examples of transferable skills can be provided within the completed application i.e. health, housing, benefits.

Working under the direction of the one of the Welfare to Work and Health Manager, the postholders will provide a bespoke employmentsupport service for individuals that have health conditions, disabilities and/or complex barriers that have accessed the service on a voluntary basis. Applicants must be able to demonstrate their ability to be able to assist individuals in seeking, obtaining and sustaining employment.

You will be required to use your own initiative to manage a diverse caseload of customers aged 16+ and take responsibility for maximising the turnover of individual appointments to ensure participants are fully supported and that efficiencies and income generation are maximised. By supporting individuals face to face you will ensure they take steps to progress towards their employment goals and see the positive results when they move into work by determining a bespoke package of support with them.

You will be required to develop personal knowledge of CV writing styles, job searching techniques and effective interview preparation and in work support .

You will need to demonstrate knowledge or the ability to understand specialist organisations and their functions both within and outside of the borough to support and signpost/refer to appropriate support e.g. addictions, debt advice, business start-up, etc. and ensure that their details are kept up to date on the CRM and bespoke IT systems.

Hours: 37 hours per week, temporary expected until 31st March 2029. Based at Halton People Into Jobs at Kingsway Learning Centre, Widnes and Runcorn Old Town.
