Overview

An Employment Solicitor is required for our Chelmsford-based client, on a part-time, fixed-term contract initially. However, once you have proven yourself within the company, there is the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff. This is a brand-new position for an experienced Employment Solicitor to make their mark in providing legal HR employment advice to the internal HR team. In your role as their Employment Solicitor you will deliver expert, timely and strategic advice on employment matters, supporting and managing complex people issues, ensuring legal compliance, reducing litigation risk, and enhancing internal capability through training, policy development and continuous professional development.

The Role
  • Provide timely and courteous legal advice on complex employment law matters
  • Draft and review a wide range of employment-related documents
  • Contribute to the development of legal and organisational strategies by delivering training and legal input to internal leaders
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date legal records, contributing to internal audits and reviews to support governance and continuous improvement
  • Support the upskilling of HR, Professional Standards, and Learning & Development teams
  • Take responsibility for personal continuous professional development (CPD), ensuring up-to-date knowledge of employment law and best practice
  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefing papers, tribunal updates, and internal communications, offering clear legal recommendations, identifying risks, and sharing insights from case outcomes and emerging legal trends
  • Conduct thorough legal research into new legislation
  • Flexible working ability to work from home
The Person
  • Must be qualified as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive, with a valid practising certificate
  • Possess a minimum of five years’ experience handling employment tribunal cases, ideally within a Respondent or predominantly Respondent practice
  • Prior experience advising public sector
  • Demonstrated familiarity with unionised working environments
  • Proven ability in legal advocacy and drafting complex employment-related documentation
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently under pressure
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to legal accuracy and professional standards
