Overview

Reporting into the UK Head of Human Resources, the ER Case Manager will manage ER cases on a front line basis. This role will act as a senior escalation point to the HR Advisory team, on a wide range of employee relation matters including management of complex cases relating to absence, performance, disciplinary and grievance.

The successful role holder will have a strong working knowledge of UK ER legislation and ER case management and will collaboratively work alongside the HR Ops, Policy and Oversight Lead in the review of UK Employment law legislation and best practice. They will work and have support from an external legal counsel to advise on very complex ER cases, but the role holder will be the internal subject matter expert for the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide sound risk-based advice and guidance to managers and employees on a variety of employee relations matters, that both employee experience and commercial outcomes.
  • Strong ability to work positively with business stakeholders at all times, with a strong skillset in demonstrating clear and well thought out advice and works in a methodical and organised manner.
  • Investigate and resolve efficiently employee complaints and grievances, ensuring fair and impartial handling of cases.
  • Conduct thorough and objective investigations into employee relations issues, gathering relevant information and conducting interviews as necessary, ensuring the process moves at an appropriate pace.
  • Collaborate with managers to address performance-related issues and develop appropriate corrective action plans where needed.
  • Mediate and facilitate discussions between employees and management to resolve conflicts and improve working relationships.
  • Stay fully updated with employment laws and regulations, providing guidance to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks.
  • Monitor ER trends and identify opportunities for proactive intervention or coaching and training to managers.
  • Collaborate with HR and legal teams to ensure consistent interpretation and application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee relations documentation and records including HR system updates.
  • Provide support in other HR-related projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Positively participate in project work when required by the business and/or the department.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the effective implementation of HR initiatives.
  • Supports the HRLT to deliver key initiatives and projects as and when required.
  • Present ER findings and recommendations on ER case management to senior stakeholders to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
Skills And Qualifications
  • Very strong experience managing a variety of employee relation matters including complexity with a strong ability to effectively engaging, influencing and negotiating with business stakeholders to reach appropriate outcomes for the business. In doing so, mitigates risk in a balanced way and successfully navigates complex organisational structures and matrixes.
  • Solid experience working positively within a team, collaborating with colleagues, sharing information and being team focused.
  • Good ability to work in an environment that encounters change often and will embrace change in a positive manner (relating to systems, processes, enhancing ways of working) and can adapt well to these situations.
  • Monitoring case trends, generating MI, offering strategic ER insights for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to identify specific areas/processes/come up with appropriate ideas that will enhance/streamline ER case management practices. Can demonstrate an ability to think outside of the box when presented with problems.
  • Ability to keep clear focus under high pressure and see solutions to problems when they arise.
  • Good understanding of UK employment law, ER best practices and regulatory context and keeps a strong eye on future horizons/potential changes and impacts on future ER case management.
  • Significant experience in managing a variety and complex employee relations matters within the Insurance industry (preferred) or within Financial Services industries and within fast-paced or high-growth environments.
  • Robust knowledge of UK employment law and employee relations practical experience managing cases in the UK.
  • Sound ability to assess employee relations risk, apply employment law and offer practical, business-aligned solutions with a clear and commercial focused mindset and approach.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting complex/large scale organisational change including restructures, mergers or TUPE transfers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to advise and challenge constructively at all levels.
  • Analytical approach with experience in identifying ER trends and using data to inform decisions.
  • Consistently stays abreast of UK employment law changes, best practices and frameworks and will share knowledge with the wider HR team and business and inform on relevant impacts to internal ER case management.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive issues.
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent experience (desirable).
