Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Control Support - Emergency Preparedness Engineer for SSEN Transmission’s Perth control centre. You will strengthen emergency preparedness, response and business continuity by designing processes, coordinating real-time operations, and liaising with regulators and industry partners.

The role requires a degree-level qualification (HNC considered) and extensive experience in emergency planning and operational resilience within the electricity sector.

Qualifications

• Experience in emergency planning, operational resilience, incident response or safety-critical engineering environments.
• Excellent knowledge of the electricity industry and interfaces with regulators and grid operators.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to produce clear reports and procedures.
• Ability to analyse and advise on emergency planning and business continuity in real-time control.

Responsibilities

• Act as expert support for control teams from operational planning to real-time operation, assessing risks and translating into preparedness documentation.
• Develop, review and manage emergency planning, preparedness, response and major incident documentation to keep the network operating during critical scenarios.
• Maintain assurance records and ensure compliance with Operational Safety Rule, Grid Code, and OFGEM requirements.
• Provide technical input during incidents and support effective command, control and decision-making; coordinate post-incident reviews and lessons learned.
• Lead representation at internal and external working groups and engage with industry partners including OFGEM, NESO, TO & DNO.
