Job description

The Emergency Department Minor Injuries Team are extremely passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. To achieve this, we are looking to recruit Band 7 Emergency Nurse Practitioners /Emergency Care Practitioners to complement our existing team. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who have a proven emergency care background and can provide a complete package of excellent carewhilst working under pressure.

Practitioners work autonomously but havethe support from a team of Consultants and Middle Grade Doctors to deliver a high standard of emergency care to patients attending the department with minor injuries, whilst workingin line with protocols and policies of the local service.You will need to be committed to excellent patient care whilst working within a small team of experienced Practitioners.

You will need to have qualifications in Clinical Examination as well as Minor Injuries/Minor Illness. You will be confident in your ability to assess and stream the full range of patients who present to a busy Emergency Department, plan their care, administer treatment, and discharge them or refer them as appropriate to other Healthcare Professionals/External Agencies.Our team of Clinicians are currently in the process of developing a new teaching programme for the Practitioner Team.

Main duties of the job

The primary focus of this role is to work autonomously providing high quality and timely patient centred care, applying expert knowledge of Emergency care theories and practice. You will be responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment and speciality referral or discharge of a diverse range of patients with minor injuries.

You will be supported in this role by joining an established team with an induction period and clearly defined role to support your progression in the team. Our department has support of an ED Professional Development Nurse and access to a broad learning environment. We positively encourage department link nurses and are developing a wide range of departmental champions to promote specialist support within the team. We aim to recruit new Clinicians that will be keen to work within a Multi-Disciplinary Team to aid Audits and service developments

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • First Level Registration Or health care professional
  • Nurse Practitioner Dip HE or equivalent Minor injury/illness
  • Educated to diploma level or can demonstrate experience of operating at this level.
  • Educated to 1st degree level or evidence of study at degree level.
Experience/ Skills
  • Experience of close liaison with members of multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective leadership skills and an understanding of leadership theory and practice.
  • Experience in emergency medicine.
  • Experience of service planning and managing change.
  • Evidence of emergency medicine clinical skills i.e. venepuncture/cannulation, wound closure.
Interests & Motivation
  • Knowledge of current clinical development, evidence-based practices and professional issues affecting nursing.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice.
  • Keen to develop own skills and develop advanced nursing practice within the advanced nursing practice within the speciality.
