As an Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP), you’ll be at the heart of our Minor Injuries Unit, providing expert assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adults and children aged 1 and above. Main duties of the job

As an Emergency Nurse Practitioner you will be expected to

Job Responsibilities
  • Clinical Assessment & Management
    • Independently assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of minor injuries in adults and children (age 1+).
    • Order and interpret diagnostic investigations such as X‑rays and blood tests where appropriate.
    • Prescribe medications/use Patient Group Directions (PGDs) within scope of practice and provide safe discharge plans.
  • Patient Care & Safety
    • Deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care in line with local and national guidelines.
    • Ensure safeguarding principles are applied for all patients, particularly children and vulnerable adults.
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient interactions.
  • Leadership & Teamwork
    • Act as a clinical resource and mentor for junior staff and students.
    • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Participate in audits, clinical governance, and risk management activities.
  • Communication
    • Provide clear, empathetic explanations to patients and families.
    • Liaise effectively with GPs, ED teams, radiology, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care.

Experience (Essential)

  • Post registration experience, including experience of working in an Emergency Department/Urgent Treatment Centre/Minor injuries unit
  • Experience of assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients/service users/staff demonstrating knowledge of specific needs
  • Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boundaries
  • Experience of leading in policy development
  • Experience of leading and managing change
  • Experience of leading innovative practice

  • Experience of leading clinical audit/research and using outcome measures

  • Supporting Learning in Clinical Practice (SLIP) or equivalent. Or an approved supervisor/assessor preparation accreditation.
  • Degree or equivalent level of education or experience
  • Evidence of further study in area of speciality – Emergency nurse practitioner/Minor injuries course/training
  • Non‑medical prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake
  • University accredited minor injury course
