This role will be carried out in our brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art, purpose‑built ED unit. Current staff have worked hard to fundraise to purchase play and sensory equipment and artwork to make the unit as child‑friendly and stress‑free as possible.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive assessment of patient nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate care according to changing health‑care needs.
  • Provide clinical expertise, advice and guidance in a specialist area of clinical practice to improve the overall care provided by the team.
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team/agencies to ensure that patient needs are met.
  • Involve patients, relatives/carers in the delivery of care, providing reassurance and support to facilitate their understanding and cooperation.
  • Prepare the clinical area for safe practice by ensuring cleanliness is maintained, materials and equipment are ready for use, including clearing away afterwards.
  • Provide escort and transfer for patients as directed by the multidisciplinary team.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Collect, collate, and report information, maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Maintain a caring, approachable, consistently professional and clinically competent stance, developing clinical competence if newly qualified.
  • Develop leadership skills over time and manage junior colleagues, students and unqualified staff, supervising the nursing care provided to ensure safe practice at all times.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Registered children’s nurse with a robust understanding of paediatric care.
  • Clinical competence and the ability to manage complex paediatric and adult patient care.
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience and commitment to providing family‑centred care in an emergency department setting.
