Job summary

LSA Secure Limited in Maidenhead/Exeter seeks an Emergency Care Assistant to support EMS teams in delivering pre-hospital care, respond to emergencies, and ensure patient safety in a fast-paced environment.

You will assist EMTs and Paramedics, perform basic life support, manage equipment, and keep accurate documentation while maintaining PPE and infection control; flexibility for weekdays, nights and weekends is required.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls and assist EMTs/Paramedics with patient assessment and care.
  • Transfer patients to ambulance and immobilise patients as needed.
  • Maintain ambulance and equipment, perform routine checks and report issues.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of interventions and patient interactions.
  • Follow PPE and infection control guidelines to protect patients and staff.

Job description

Emergency Care Assistant

As an Emergency Care Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team in providing essential pre-hospital care to patients during emergencies. You will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, assisting Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics in responding to emergency calls, delivering medical care, and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients. Your dedication and expertise will make a difference in the lives of individuals during their most challenging moments.

Location: Maidenhead, Exeter

Basis: Full-Time, Part-Time, Bank

Key Responsibilities
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergency calls and assist EMTs and Paramedics in assessing the patient’s condition, administering first aid, and providing life-saving interventions.
  • Patient Care: Safely and compassionately assist in transferring patients to the ambulance, positioning and immobilising patients as necessary, and administering basic medical care under the direction of senior clinicians.
  • Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure that the ambulance and medical equipment are properly maintained, stocked, and in working condition to provide high-quality care. Perform routine checks and report any issues.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with team members, dispatchers, and hospitals to relay important patient information and ensure efficient coordination.
  • Documentation: Complete accurate and timely patient care reports, documenting all interventions and interactions with patients in compliance with established protocols and regulations.
  • Infection Control: Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines, including proper personal protective equipment (PPE) use, to protect both patients and healthcare providers.
  • Compassion and Empathy: Exhibit empathy and understanding toward patients and their families, especially in stressful and critical situations.
  • Continuing Education: Stay current with relevant certifications, training, and industry best practices to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications
  • Full UK Driving Licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Emergency Response Driving Qualification.
  • Minimum of First Response Emergency Care Level 4 (FREC4).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift and move patients safely.
  • Compassion and a strong commitment to patient care.
  • Willingness to work in varying shifts, including weekdays,nights & weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a similar role or healthcare setting.
  • C1 Category on driving licence.
