Job summary

Bolt in Cheltenham is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain embedded firmware for next-generation traffic signal systems. You will work with hardware and software engineers on a new product platform, shaping software architecture and contributing to tests, documentation and release readiness.

The role offers hybrid working, flexibility in hours, and a salary up to £60,000 per year.

Qualifications

Experience developing embedded software using C.
Knowledge of microcontrollers, ideally STM32 or PIC32.
Familiarity with RTOS and bare-metal programming.
Understanding of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, serial and wireless.
Experience with debugging tools, Git and software testing.
The ability to interpret circuit diagrams and hardware documentation.
Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
A proactive approach, with the ability to explain technical decisions and work independently.

Responsibilities

Design, develop and maintain embedded firmware using C.
Lead and contribute to the development of new products and software architecture.
Work with microcontrollers, RTOS and bare-metal systems.
Translate requirements into practical software solutions.
Test, debug and troubleshoot embedded systems.
Produce technical documentation, test plans and scripts.
Collaborate with engineers and project teams to improve product performance and reliability.
