Job summary

A leading engineering services firm in the UK is seeking a Contract Powertrain Control Software Engineer to enhance their Powertrain Software and Controls department. This role involves participating in the full software lifecycle, from implementing C-code to on-site validation. Applicants should have experience with embedded systems and a degree in engineering or equivalent. Job description

We are seeking an experienced and self‑starting Contract Powertrain Control Software Engineer to join the Powertrain Software and Controls department. This is a contract running initially for 6 months and designed to rapidly increase our bandwidth and ensure the timely delivery of key Engineering projects. You will be instrumental in the full software lifecycle, from C‑code implementation to on‑site validation using our simulators.

What You Will Deliver
  • Deliver high‑quality engine management system software changes.
  • Write, test and integrate C‑code for engine control units (ECUs).
  • Utilize on‑site simulators and tools to validate and calibrate (default/safe) new control algorithms.
  • Create comprehensive control algorithm specifications and calibration procedures.
  • Investigate and resolve complex engine control issues raised by customers or internal teams.
  • Work closely with the existing team and provide crucial knowledge transfer, mandating 3 days on‑site.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrable experience in hand‑writing and delivering C‑code projects for embedded systems.
  • Engineering Degree/HNC or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • A self‑reliant and detail‑oriented mindset, capable of owning and driving tasks to completion.
Highly Desirable
  • Prior experience in Powertrain Calibration development tools and techniques.
  • In‑depth understanding of powertrain control strategy and combustion engine development.
  • Senior‑level delivery experience within a software and controls department.
