Job summary

Jackie Kerr Recruitment is recruiting an Embedded Software Engineer for a UK-based designer and manufacturer in Fordingbridge. You will develop embedded software in C and C++, work with Embedded Linux and RTOS platforms, and help bring new electronic products to life.

You'll review specifications, write and test software, debug across hardware and software, use Git for version control, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure products meet customer specs and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in Software Engineering or closely related discipline.
• More than one year of commercial embedded-product development experience.
• Strong embedded software development experience using C and C++.
• Practical experience with Embedded Linux and real-time operating systems.
• Experience programming 32-bit microcontrollers and microprocessors.
• Confident using Git for version control.
• Strong debugging, testing and fault-finding capabilities.

Responsibilities

Our client is an established designer and manufacturer of innovative electronic products and is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join their expanding design team!

Embedded Software Engineer Roles and Responsibilities

• Review product specifications and propose suitable software solutions
• Develop embedded software using C and C++
• Develop application software and supporting test software
• Research and develop new embedded electronic products

Embedded Software Engineer Ideal Candidate

• Good understanding of electronic subsystems and hardware-level development
• Understanding of modern software-development methodologies
• Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary product-design team

Desirable Skills and Experience

• GUI development using LVGL or Qt
• Experience with FreeRTOS or Zephyr
• Knowledge of Yocto
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines
• Understanding of communication protocols including USB, UART, SPI, I2C, CAN and Ethernet
• Experience with wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and NFC
