Cygnus Instruments, based in Bath, seeks an embedded software engineer to join the design office. You will develop with STM32 MCUs, write C/C++ software, and learn Ultrasonic NDT techniques while following Agile processes.

Ideal candidates have experience in embedded systems, USB protocols, and driver development, plus a willingness to travel to Dorchester and possibly to customer sites. This role offers a collaborative culture and ongoing learning opportunities.

Formación

• Fluent in C++20.
• Familiar with STM32 microcontrollers.
• Conversant with Cube tools, Eclipse and GCC.
• Developed embedded systems or products.
• Experience with RTOS such as ThreadX/FileX/USBX.
• Developed embedded USB protocols.
• Developed communication stacks and protocols.
• Driver development: SPI/I2C/UART.
• Displays – RGB/DSI; Flash memory interface.
• FPGA interface and initialisation.
• Nice to have: signal processing on analog signals; Bluetooth LE; test equipment experience.

Responsabilidades

• Support and collaborate with the engineering team on product development projects.

• Develop code in C/C++.
• Learn about Ultrasonic NDT technology and methods.
• Learn about ultrasonic probes used in NDT.
• Follow the Agile design methodology.
• Record research and design activity in a digital logbook.
• Update project planning software as work progresses.
• Follow ISO 9001 procedures.
• Use Microsoft Office 365 for documents and communication.
• Occasional travel to Dorchester head office when required.
• Possibility of future customer site visits to evaluate designs and get feedback.

Located at our design Office in Bath, Somerset, this role requires an individual with a keen interest and knowledge in embedded software engineering and has a willingness to develop and learn. As a small company we require a versatile engineer who can work on bringing up new boards right up to delivering the final application.

What you’ll be doing:

• Support and collaborate with the engineering team on product development projects.

What experience you’ll need:

Essentials:

• Fluent in C++ 20.
• Familiar with STM32 microcontrollers.
• Must be conversant with Cube tools, Eclipse and GCC.

Must have recent experience in:

• Developing embedded systems or products.
• Using an RTOS ( Azure: ThreadX, FileX, USBX ).
• Developing embedded USB protocols.
• Developing communication stacks and protocols.

Must have driver development skills,

• SPI / I2C / UART.
• Displays – RGB, DSI.
• Flash memory interface.
• FPGA interface and initialisation.

Nice to have/ or good understanding of:

• Signal processing of sampled analogue signals – filtering, FFT, statistics.
• Bluetooth LE and stack development.
• Physics, measurement and instrumentation principles.
• Have experience using test equipment such as logic analysers, oscilloscopes and power meters.
• Hold a good degree in engineering.
• Ability to handle more than one project at a time.
