Job summary

Videojet Technologies, a Veralto company, based in Nottingham, UK, is seeking a skilled embedded software test engineer. You will design and maintain automated/manual test cases for embedded systems used in industrial coding and marking equipment.

You will work in a cross‑functional Agile Scrum team with software, electronics and mechanical engineers to ensure high product quality through the full development lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in CS/Software/EE or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience testing embedded software and developing automated test solutions.
  • Experience in embedded test environments and collaborating with software engineers.
  • Experience creating structured test cases from product requirements and executing validation strategies.
  • Experience with embedded test tools including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL).
  • Advantageous: C#, .NET Framework/Core (ASP.NET).
  • Advantageous: FitNesse, Zephyr, TestComplete (VBScript).
  • Advantageous: scripting (PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, TCL).
  • Advantageous: Linux environments, HTTP/REST/SOAP APIs, CI/CD (Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions).
  • Advantageous: Ethernet, Raspberry Pi/Arduino/PLCs, reading schematics/datasheets.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain automated and manual test cases for embedded software in industrial coding and marking equipment.
  • Work in a cross-functional Agile Scrum team with Software, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineers to ensure product quality.
  • Execute functional, regression, exploratory, integration and end-to-end testing.
  • Create comprehensive test coverage and maintain existing regression suites.
  • Investigate defects, reproduce issues and collaborate with development teams to resolve.
  • Drive continuous improvement of software test automation and transform manual tests into automated solutions.

Job description

Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We require a bachelors degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • We require hands‑on experience testing embedded software, including development of automated test solutions.
  • We require experience working within an embedded software test environment and collaborating closely with software development engineers.

  • We require experience with embedded test tools, including Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) environments.

Responsibilities:

  • We work within a cross‑functional Agile Scrum team alongside Software Engineers, Electronics Engineers and Mechanical Engineers to ensure product quality throughout the development lifecycle.
  • We execute a variety of testing methodologies including functional, regression, exploratory, integration and end‑to‑end testing.
  • We support new product development by creating comprehensive test coverage while maintaining existing regression suites for current products.
  • We investigate software issues identified internally or by customers, reproducing defects and working closely with development teams to resolve them.
  • We drive continuous improvement of software test automation, helping transform existing manual testing into efficient automated solutions that improve engineering productivity.
