Job summary

Technical Futures Ltd is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer with strong embedded Linux experience (Yocto) to work across medical, smart home, energy and defence sectors. The role offers a challenging mix of projects and close collaboration with clients.

You will build and maintain Yocto based distributions, write firmware for microcontrollers (bare metal or FreeRTOS), and tackle low level bootloader and driver work.

Qualifications

• At least 1–2 years commercial Embedded Linux experience.
• Experience with Yocto-based distributions.
• Ability to read schematics and debug firmware.
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills.

Are you an Embedded Software Engineer who is skilled in Embedded Linux development (including Yocto)? Are you seeking a rewarding yet challenging role where you'll work on a range of projects across Industries from Medical, Smart Home, Energy and Defence to Communications, Scientific and more?

This Technical Consultancy will allow the successful Embedded Linux Software Engineer to broaden their technical knowledge, work closely with Clients and to contribute their own ideas to solve real-world challenges. It would be great to see applications from Embedded Software Engineers who have commercial experience across a variety of industries.

You must possess at least 1-2 years' commercial experience involving Embedded Linux, be fully eligible to work in the UK (sorry we cannot consider Graduate Visa's) and bring a good academic history.

In this Embedded Linux Software Engineer role you'll have responsibility for a range of tasks such as building and maintaining Yocto based Linux distributions; writing and debugging firmware for microcontrollers, bare metal or FreeRTOS; working across the stack from bootloader and kernel drivers down to real time firmware as well as supporting products in the field.

What you should bring to this Embedded Linux Software Engineer role:

• Post-graduate commercial Embedded Software development experience.
• Hands-on experience with Embedded Linux (Yocto Layers, Kernel Drivers, etc.)
• Experience with FreeRTOS or another RTOS.
• C/C++ development for Microcontrollers (ideally STM32/similar Cortex M)
• Familiarity with debugging tools and reading schematics.
• Good communication skills with confidence to work closely with customers.
• Minimum of 2.1 Bachelors Degree in Electronics, computer Science or similar.
