Job summary

MDA Space in Farnborough, UK is seeking an Embedded Linux Software Engineer to develop and maintain beamforming embedded software for our satellite communication products. You will work across product lines, with ARM targets, Yocto/Buildroot, and drive code quality and lifecycle documentation.

You will collaborate with hardware and firmware teams, contribute to automation, CI, and testing, and take ownership of issues while staying adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience of full lifecycle embedded software development.
• Ideally 5–9 years of post-graduation experience in Embedded Linux roles.
• C/C++ embedded SW engineering on ARM or similar.
• Experience with embedded Linux (kernel and user-space development, Yocto, Buildroot, drivers).
• Knowledge of Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, USB interfaces.
• Low level device driver development and testing.
• Python/Perl scripting.
• Git/SVN version control.

Embedded Linux Software Engineer

Our Sat Connect IC business unit, a division of our Satellite Systems business, is a leading provider of ASICs, software, multibeam electronically steered antennas, and complete systems for communication satellites, as well as ground and airborne terminals. With locations in Israel, the UK, and the US, we are a technology leader in satellite communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop & maintain existing MDA Beamforming Embedded Software products
• Timely delivery of software to a variety of product lines integrating with customer projects
• Maintain code quality standards using industry recognised tools
• Contribute to evolution of the design and product roadmap
• Support automation tools and continuous integration methodologies
• Take ownership of issues on MDA products and engage with customers as appropriate
• Produce documentation at all levels of lifecycle (concept, design, training material etc.)

Job Requirements

• Experience of full lifecycle embedded software development
• Ideally, about 5 to 9 years of post‑graduation working expereince in Embedded Linux software roles
• C/C++ embedded SW engineering experience, preferably on ARM or similar processor
• Experience working with embedded Linux embedded (kernel and user‑space development and debugging, Yocto, Buildroot, low level drivers)
• Communication interfaces; Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, USB
• Low level Device Driver experience and ability to develop integrate and test
• Python/Perl scripting knowledge
• Version Control experience (e.g., GIT, SVN)
• Excellent Interpersonal skills
• Independent, self‑motivated, team player and multitasking capabilities
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced and changing environment
• Knowledge on RF fundamentals and communications theory desirable but not essential
• Knowledge of code coverage tools and unit test environments desirable, but not essential
