Job summary

HID Global in Cardiff, UK is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to build and debug firmware for PACS RFID access control products. You will work in small Agile teams and support multiple product lifecycles, with occasional travel.

Responsibilities include implementing firmware in C and C#, creating documentation, and hands-on debugging, under minimal supervision. A degree in engineering or equivalent is required, with 1+ years of experience.

Embedded Firmware Engineer – Cardiff, UK

HID is looking for an embedded engineer with firmware development and debugging experience to support product design and sustaining activities on a range of PACS RFID access control products. The candidate will work in small, versatile Agile teams, manage multiple products at different stages of the life cycle, and collaborate with colleagues both onsite and overseas. Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Implementation of embedded firmware designs and test solutions primarily in C and C#.
• Creation of design documentation.
• Hands‑on debugging of embedded systems.
• Completion of tasks with minimal supervision.

Required Knowledge/Experience

• Ability to write low to medium complexity coded solutions.
• Experience with embedded C, bare metal and RTOS applications.
• Proficient with standard development software: debuggers, editors, compilers.
• Comfortable working at low level (GPIO, UART, SPI, I2C).
• Experience with software version control.

Additional Beneficial Skills/Experience

• Smart Card ISO7816 and RFID ISO 14443/15693 protocols.
• Implementation experience of cryptographic solutions.
• I2C and SPI protocols.
• NUnit test framework.
• CMock unit testing.

Essential Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent qualification or suitable experience.
• Minimum of 1+ years of related industry experience.
