Embedded Applications Engineer • Wokingham, Berkshire

We are recruiting on behalf of a technology company based in Wokingham, and we are seeking an Embedded Applications Engineer to join their talented team. This role includes visiting customer sites to support Sales Engineers with demonstrations and technical knowledge.

About the Role

As an Embedded Applications Engineer you will join the Embedded team and report to the Technical Manager. You will provide a high quality, timely design, support and integration service to customers and work as part of a highly technical design team of support engineers.

  • This role will provide a high quality, timely design, support, and integration service to customers.
  • The purpose of the Embedded Applications Engineer’s role is to contribute to the revenue and profit targets by providing solutions to our customers through design‑in of franchised products.
  • The role will also be responsible for the preparation of design and build documentation, prototype manufacturing and to provide additional procedures to eliminate post‑sales quality issues.
Responsibilities
  • Advising and supporting the Sales team with technical sales queries.
  • Assisting and advising customers on solutions to help them achieve their goals.
  • Creation and maintenance of build and test documentation.
  • Hands‑on build and repair.
  • Provide guidance to internal and external customers including upselling to maximise opportunities.
  • Provide product training to other team members such as Engineers, Customer Service and Technology Centre.
  • First line fault‑find and work with customer for No Fault Found.
  • Work with suppliers to identify and repair faulty product.
  • Test product after return from repair.
  • Work with product manufacturer to fix design issues and procure advanced replacement stock.
  • Provide detailed technical reports to customers and suppliers to assist with issues that are difficult to pinpoint and resolve.
  • Provide procedures to customers to resolve product integration issues, e.g. how to correctly install com‑express onto customers carrier.
  • Provide custom BIOS updates to customer to meet with updated requirements.
About You
Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Embedded computing knowledge – PC hardware, PCI, cPCI, COMe, software, BIOS, EFI, drivers, disk drives, USB, etc.
  • Some knowledge of legacy technologies (VME, PC/104, as well as RTOS, Linux and Windows operating systems) would be an advantage.
  • An appropriate qualification in engineering would also be desirable. Strong troubleshooting skills. Familiar with both hardware and software.
Skills & Experience
  • Previous hands‑on experience in building and repairing PCs.
  • Adept with real time operating systems, software such as Windows, Ubuntu, and Linux, driver support and writing basic drivers.
  • Re‑flashing BIOS/EFI, working with customer and supplier to diagnose and propose solutions.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.

Hours & Rewards

On offer is a competitive basic salary, on‑site parking, bonus, and very attractive benefits. You will work 37.5 hours per week.
