Job summary

Sheffield United Football Club is seeking an Academy Doctor to provide high-quality medical care across the Academy programme and support the Men’s First Team as tunnel doctor for home fixtures. This part-time role (20 hours per week) requires flexibility around the football schedule, with on-site Academy care, matchday coverage and First Team involvement.

Qualifications

• Medical degree in medicine (MBBS/MBChB) with GMC registration.
• Full GMC registration with licence to practise in the UK and up-to-date appraisal/revalidation.
• Current FA Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF) or equivalent.
• Clinical experience in General Practice, Sport & Exercise Medicine, Emergency Medicine or related field.
• Experience in sport or high-performance multidisciplinary environments.
• Strong clinical governance, confidentiality and medical record-keeping knowledge.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with players, families and staff.
• Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to obtain.
• Flexible to work around football schedule including Academy and First Team fixtures.

Responsibilities

• Provide regular medical care to Academy players, including training-ground clinics and injury/illness management.
• Offer pitch-side medical cover for Academy U18/U21 fixtures and assist with matchday team medical provisions.
• Coordinate referrals, investigations and consultant appointments and accompany players to consultations as needed.
• Support injury rehabilitation alongside the Academy medical and performance teams.
• Oversee Academy medical screening, annual testing and safeguarding protocols.
• Maintain high standards of medical governance and accurate record keeping.
