Job summary

Morson are recruiting on behalf of a leading defence equipment manufacturer based in Bolton, Greater Manchester, for a contract role that is likely to be long‑term.

The role will provide Test Engineering support to the manufacturing test of weapons sub-systems in production and development tests, plus diagnostics of complex tests at system and subsystem level.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND (Electronics) level qualifications or equivalent.
• Good understanding of measurement and test principles and associated test equipment.
• Knowledge of CADMID lifecycle for test equipment is desirable.
• RF and microwave knowledge at subsystem level would be an advantage.
• Environmental testing experience would be an advantage.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including generation of test specifications and reports.
• Proven analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to plan and organise own work to meet project objectives.

Responsibilities

• Provide Test Engineering support during Design/Development phases from initial concept through to Production Readiness Review and release to Operations.
• Support Test Facility introduction and ensure configuration control of equipment and facilities, including test specifications and operator instructions.
• Support testing of electrical/electronic weapon systems and sub-assemblies, diagnosing production test failures to circuit card and component level where needed.
• Identify remedial and corrective actions to allow Manufacturing to continue production in line with programme.
• Evaluate technical problems to develop proposals for test equipment investigations and corrective actions.
• Act as Test Engineering representative at Defect Review Board meetings to progress equipment and quality improvements.

Role Overview:

Morson are recruiting on behalf a leading defence equipment manufacturers based in Bolton, Greater Manchester. This is a contract role although highly likely to be long-term.

Rates: £27.54 per hour PAYE or £37 per hour Umbrella

Monday - Friday 37 hours +

The role will be responsible for Technical support to the manufacturing test of weapons sub-systems in production and development test and diagnostics of complex weapons at system and Subsystem level

Specific responsibilities include:

• Provide Test Engineering support during Design / Development phases from initial concept through to Production Readiness Review and release to Operations.
• Support Test Facility introduction and ensure that configuration control of equipment and facilities is in place prior to use, including generating supporting test specifications and operator instructions.
• Support to testing of electrical/electronic weapon systems and sub-assemblies, with diagnosis of production test failures down to circuit card and potentially component level.
• Identification of remedial and corrective actions, in a timely manner allowing Manufacturing to continue production in line with programme.
• Evaluation of technical problems in order to develop proposals for test equipment investigations and corrective actions, including process improvements.
• Test Engineering representative at Defect Review Board meetings to ensure efficient progress of equipment and quality notifications towards corrective action. Role requirements (skills, training and qualifications)

• HNC/HND (Electronics) Level of Qualifications or equivalent, plus good level of experience in digital & analogue electronics manufacture and test.
• A good understanding of measurement and test principles, and associated test equipment.
• An understanding of the typical CADMID product lifecycle for test equipment is desirable.
• An understanding of RF and microwave technology at subsystem level would be an advantage.
• An understanding of Environmental testing (including ESS) would also be an advantage.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, including generation of test specifications, operator instructions and technical reports based on higher-level requirements.
• Proven analytical and problem solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
• The ability to plan and organise own work in order to ensure multiple tasks can be prioritised and delivered against Project objectives.
