Electronics Technician

Salary: £32,000 per annum
Location: Barnsley

A leading innovator within the safety critical electronics device sector, are seeking an Electronics Technician to join their engineering team in Barnsley. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on technician with a passion for electronics to support the design, testing, and validation of cutting‑edge electronic systems. Due to the nature of work, you will be based onsite in Barnsley, although the business operates flexible hours with core times being 9.30am – 4pm.

As an Electronics Technician you will play a key role in their development process, working closely with engineers to build, test, and modify prototype systems. You will be involved in assembling test rigs, performing functional and environmental tests, and supporting equipment setup for compliance testing. This role is perfect for someone looking to build their career in electronics while contributing to exciting and innovative projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build, wire, and modify test rigs based on engineering design briefs
  • Solder and modify PCB boards, including troubleshooting and adjusting
  • Assist in environmental and electrical testing of panels and systems
  • Construct and maintain load and test boxes, including simple mechanical work (e.g., drilling enclosures, fitting switches, etc.)
  • Support engineers in EMC pre‑compliance testing, environmental chamber testing, and surge testing
  • Assist in the creation of test setups for third‑party compliance testing, including functional and environmental trials
  • Collaborate with the team to improve and streamline testing processes
Key Skills:
  • Strong experience in electronics assembly, soldering, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret electronics schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Experience with test equipment (EMC, surge, harmonics, and environmental testing)
  • Ability to assemble and modify PCB boards, including prototype and validation work
  • Solid mechanical skills, including basic enclosure drilling and assembly
  • Good problem‑solving abilities in a lab/test environment
  • Attention to detail, with a proactive approach to meeting deadlines
  • Excellent team collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience with electrical safety standards and protocols
