Introduction

We are seeking motivated Electronics Summer Placement Students to join our team for a summer placement based full-time at our Cambridge office. This is an exciting opportunity for a student with a strong grounding in electronics to gain hands-on industry experience.

The placement will last 12 weeks. Successful candidates should be available to start their placement between May and October 2027.

There is no deadline for this role, as we recruit on a rolling basis. Once the position is filled, we will close the advert.

The Opportunity

During the placement, your time will be split between contributing to a dedicated internal development project and supporting a range of live client projects. You will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining practical exposure to electronics design, simulation, testing, and measurement in a professional consultancy environment.

You will also have access to our extensive in-house facilities. These include:

  • Prototype PCB manufacturing facilities, including SMT pick-and-place, vapour-phase reflow and x-ray inspection
  • EMC emissions test facility
  • 5GHz 360 antenna test facility

Some interesting electronics projects that we've previously worked on:

Overcoming smart meter challenges for the last 5% by developing a custom ZigBee to Long-Range Radio Bridge

Design of a low-power, high-performance smart wearable for Accesso integrating multiple radios

Collaborating with LEGO SMART Play combining custom wireless charging, BLE, a novel magnetic positioning system and NFC tag reading all in one device

Developing a novel air-interface and bespoke communication systems for the Ocado Smart Platform controlling hundreds of robots in grocery distribution centres

Next-generation Explosive Ordnance Disposal for the British Army

What you'll be doing
  • Field experiments to validate concepts
  • PCB level circuit design and laboratory-based design validation
  • Development of system models
  • As required, present designs, results and conclusions
  • Work as part of a close-knit, multi-disciplinary project team focused on delivering design solutions to our clients
What you can bring

We are looking for someone currently in their penultimate year studying towards a MEng degree in Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline, on track to achieve a 2.1 or above.

You will also have:

  • A solid foundation in electronic principles.
  • Familiarity with electronics lab equipment (such as soldering irons and oscilloscopes),
  • Knowledge of electronics simulation tools, and experience in electronics design and schematic capture would be highly advantageous.
  • An understanding of electronics measurements and lab-based debugging is also desirable.

A motivated and detail-oriented engineer who is motivated towards working in a hands-on laboratory environment will thrive in this role.
