Job summary

OrganOx Limited in Oxford is seeking an Electronics Design Engineer to design, develop, and support electronics for its medical devices, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards throughout the lifecycle.

You will perform schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, and verification, with proficiency in Altium Designer considered a strong advantage, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in electronics design for regulated industries is desirable.
• Proficiency in analogue and digital circuit design.
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Familiarity with EMC and design-for-manufacture principles.
• Experience with testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and logic analysers.

Position Summary

The Electronics Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting electronics systems for OrganOx's medical devices, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory and safety standards. The role involves full lifecycle electronics design from concept through to manufacturing handover, including schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, and verification. Proficiency with Altium Designer will be considered a strong advantage.

This is an on-site role based in our Oxford office, combining on-site collaboration with remote design work to ensure close interaction with cross-functional engineering, quality, and regulatory teams.

Major Responsibilities

Reporting to the Electronics Engineering Manager, and under direction from the Principal Electronics Engineer, the Electronics Design Engineer will be responsible for:

• Designing and developing electronic circuits and PCB layouts, with a focus on reliability, safety, and manufacturability.
• Creating schematics and PCB designs using Altium Designer (advantageous).
• Performing component selection and design calculations to meet performance specifications.
• Conducting design verification and validation in accordance with IEC 60601 and other applicable standards.
• Collaborating with mechanical, software, and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of electronics.
• Supporting prototype assembly, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Preparing and maintaining design documentation.
• Participating in design reviews and providing technical input for continuous product improvement.
• Supporting transfer to manufacturing and assisting with supplier engagement for electronics components and assemblies.

Skills & Experience

• Demonstrable industry experience in electronics design.
• Experience in regulated industries, preferably medical devices, is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of analogue and digital circuit design.
• Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout, ideally with Altium Designer.
• Familiarity with EMC design considerations and design-for-manufacture principles.
• Experience with electronic testing tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and logic analysers.
• Understanding of medical device standards (ISO 13485, IEC 60601, IEC 62304) is an advantage.
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex design issues.
• Effective communication skills for working within cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
• Ability to travel occasionally (up to 5%).
