Job summary

Legrand in Greater London is seeking an electronics test engineer to support prototype assembly, testing and validation across the development lifecycle. You will assist with bench‑level debugging, documentation, and cross‑functional coordination to ensure traceability and adherence to design for manufacture.

The role covers test execution, reporting, and collaboration with Quality in Design and R&D teams, contributing to manufacturing readiness and post‑development support.

Qualifications

• Electronics engineering qualification or equivalent (HNC/HND/degree).
• Experience with electronics assembly, soldering, prototype build or test sample prep.
• Experience with common electronic test equipment: multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies and signal generators.
• Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, test procedures and technical documentation.
• Strong fault-finding, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written communication for clear test notes and reports.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in MS Office and document management systems.
• Good communication across technical and non‑technical teams.
• Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Prototype assembly and development support.
• Assemble, modify and rework electronic prototypes, test samples and development units.
• Support R&D engineers with bench‑level debugging and fault investigation.
• Prepare test samples, wiring harnesses, fixtures and basic jigs for development and validation.
• Record prototype changes and test outcomes for traceability.
• Plan, conduct and document product verification and validation testing per plans.
• Use lab equipment including Probit Lab, environmental chamber, Hi‑Pot, GTEM and oscilloscopes.
• Carry out functional, safety, environmental, pre‑compliance, reliability and performance testing.
• Analyze test results, identify failures or trends, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Prepare concise test reports and evidence for design reviews.
• Communicate with Quality in Design and R&D teams.
• Provide feedback to support design improvements and validate fixes.
• Support test protocols for manufacturing and transfer knowledge from R&D.
• Assist with production test methods, limits and acceptance criteria.
• Provide engineering support during prototype and early production builds.
