Production Assemble Technician, working on small batches

Asahi Glassplant UK Ltd. (AGI UK) is a leading manufacturer of premium quality chemical processing equipment for laboratories and manufacturing plants. Our wide range of products serve all chemistry sectors but especially the pharmaceutical industry. Our parent company AGI Japan was founded in 1950, is the market leader in Japan, now employing over 700 people.

AGI UK’s head office and electromechanical assembly facilities are based in Royston, Hertfordshire and we have a glass fabrication facility in Sutton, near Ely, Cambridgeshire.

A bit about the role…

AGI is hiring an experienced Electromechanical Assembly Technician to join our production team. You will assemble small batches of mechanical and electromechanical devices used in scientific research and manufacturing. Precise, high-quality work is essential to maintain AGI’s reputation for delivering high standards. Every employee is responsible for helping us continually improve our products. As part of the EMA team, you are in an excellent position to offer feedback about quality and suggest possible performance enhancements.

The role involves working closely with both the Head of EMA and the EMA Team Leader to efficiently meet customer demand. Responsibilities include building stock according to the Master Production Schedule, responding to urgent requests as they arise, consistently maintaining high quality standards, and contributing to ongoing product and manufacturing improvements.

Job brief
Regular Duties
  • Assembly of Syrris branded mechanical products such as Orb and Orb Pilot. This requires proficiency with a wide range of hand tools and a willingness to undertake moderate levels of manual handling. Strict adherence to build instructions is essential to ensure the high degree of accuracy required.
  • Assembly of numerous Syrris branded electromechanical products, which contain heating and cooling devices, motor drives, pressure sensors, small bore tubing, lead screws, wiring and linear bearings, etc. These all require a high degree of accuracy throughout assembly, adjustment and calibration to ensure the correct performance and reliability.
  • Factory acceptance testing (FAT) products to specification and documenting outcomes
  • Record build issues to ensure our products are continuously improved, and communicate to Manufacturing Engineering via team leader
  • Role will involve a moderate level of manual handling in all aspects of the role
Occasional duties
  • As part of a small team everyone is expected to support each other, in time of high demand, illness and holiday you may be required to support other areas of the business e.g. general stores duties
Role requirements
  • Experience in electromechanical assembly and test, ideally 2+ years
  • Proven ability to accurately follow written instructions to deliver precision assemblies
  • Able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering drawings
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word
  • Ability to prioritise workload according to production schedule
  • Comfortable working independently, and happy collaborating to support the team’s objectives
  • Excellent attention to detail in all you do
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and organized
