Job description

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician in HMP Kirkham, Freckleton Road, Kirkham, Preston, Lancashire, PR4 2RN.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, between Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 17:00; Friday to Sunday 08:00 - 16:00. There will be a need to work 1 in 3 weekends, on a rota basis, with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary.

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

What you will do

• Planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
• Complete all documentation related to the tasks carried out to ensure adherence to compliance.
• Respond to breakdowns ensuring all works are carried out under the appropriate Safe System of Work and in a timely manner.
• Actively fault find / problem solve on domestic electrical systems across the prison.
• Undertake electrical installation activities in accordance with the design provided and IET Wiring Regulations.
• Test and inspect electrical installations in accordance with current IEE wiring regulations.
• Monitor and order critical spares for all electrical services.
• Other tasks as required by the Site.

What you will bring

• Ability to work alone and use initiative.
• Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at work Regulations.
• Capable of working at heights.
• Appropriate technical qualification eg City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above.
• BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition (however if you currently only have 17th Edition, we will sponsor you to upgrade to the 18th Edition; terms and conditions apply).
• Experience of electrical maintenance activities, general distribution and installation and testing within a commercial environment.
• Experience in fire alarm systems and CCTV systems.
• IT skills.

Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).
