Job summary

Leyton Buzzard-based water industry contractor seeks an Electrician to join the inhouse electrical delivery team. You will install, maintain, inspect, test, and repair electrical systems across water treatment facilities and pumping stations. Travel to sites as required and ensure safe, compliant operation.

We require NVQ Level 3, AM2, City & Guilds 2391, ECS Gold Card, and a strong safety record. You will read schematics, handle cables, and support commissioning and defect resolution across

Qualifications

  • Qualified Electrician with NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
  • AM2 certification and ECS Gold Card.
  • Inspection and Testing qualification (City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent).
  • Experience on industrial electrical installations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Knowledge of BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality.
  • Reliable and self-motivated.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible approach to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Install and terminate power, control, and instrumentation cables.
  • Install containment systems including tray, ladder rack, conduit, trunking, and ducting.
  • Perform electrical testing and inspection in accordance with BS 7671 requirements.
  • Diagnose electrical faults and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Work on motors, pumps, MCCs, control panels, VSDs, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Support commissioning and decommissioning activities.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Complete maintenance records, test certificates, and site documentation accurately.
  • Ensure all work is compliant with health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
  • Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Liaise with site personnel, supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors for project delivery.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and site safety.
  • Support emergency breakdown response when required.
  • Follow HSEQ procedures and permit-to-work requirements.

Job description

Position: Electrician

Location: Leighton Buzzard with travel to and from sites as required

Our Client:

Our client is a Tier 1 D&B Contractor operating predominately in the water industry, who are a strategic partner to Thames Water for AMP8 on Major Projects and Capital Frameworks across the Thames Water supply and treatment regions, predominately for non-infrastructure assets.

The Role:

You will be part of their inhouse electrical delivery team. Responsible for carrying out the installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, and repair of electrical systems and equipment across water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, reservoirs, and associated infrastructure.

The role is critical in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of water industry assets while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and company standards.

Experience:
  • Essential: Qualified Electrician with NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
  • AM2 certification. ECS Gold Card.
  • Inspection and Testing qualification (City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent).
  • Experience working on industrial electrical installations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.

Working Conditions:
  • Work at water treatment works, wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, and utility sites.
  • Travel between to and from sites.
  • Staying away maybe required.
  • Occasional overtime, standby, or emergency call-out duties may be necessary.
  • Work may involve confined spaces, outdoor environments, and industrial settings.
