Job description

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Test Technician to join our Technology Development team in Blyth. This role is central to ensuring the successful delivery of testing activities that support our mission of accelerating the growth of renewable energy.

Position:

As an Electrical Test Technician, you will provide hands-on technical support in our state-of-the-art testing facilities. You will be responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining electrical systems and test equipment, ensuring all activities are completed to the highest safety and quality standards.

You’ll play a vital role in supporting engineers during test campaigns, troubleshooting systems, and maintaining equipment to keep our facilities operating at their best. This is a practical, varied role that requires flexibility, problem-solving, and a proactive mindset.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, operate, and demobilise test equipment in line with engineering documentation and safety requirements.
  • Support engineers in delivering customer test plans within time and budget.
  • Ensure test pieces and supporting systems are set up to required standards.
  • Carry out fault-finding, maintenance, and routine inspections on plant and equipment.
  • Mentor apprentices and trainees, sharing best practices and knowledge.
  • Supervise contractors and ensure visitors are fully briefed on site safety.
  • Actively contribute to health, safety, and environmental standards across the site.
  • Propose and support improvements to facility operations, testing techniques, and processes.
Requirements:

We are looking for a proactive and adaptable technician who enjoys hands-on work in a dynamic environment. You should be confident working with electrical systems, able to troubleshoot effectively, and committed to maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Time-served Electrical Technician with current practical experience.
  • Minimum ONC in Electrical Engineering or industry equivalent.
  • Current BS7671 18th Edition qualification.
  • Current City & Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award.
  • Current Electro-technical Certificate Scheme (ECS) card.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical system installation and fault-finding.
  • Experience in installation, maintenance, and general repair of plant and machinery.
  • Understanding of health & safety practices, risk assessments, and method statements.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of PLCs, DAQ, and instrumentation.
  • Experience in renewable energy or test environments.
  • Forklift truck and overhead crane certificates.
  • Lifting/slinging, PUWER/LOLER, or heavy lifting operations experience.
  • IPAF MEWP (3a/3b) and/or telehandler licence.

Other information:

This role is based across our Blyth facilities and test sites. You will predominantly work indoors but may be required to work outdoors in varied weather conditions. Some tasks may involve working at height or in confined spaces. Flexibility is key, with occasional requirements for shifts, callouts, and standby cover.
