Job summary

Thames Water is seeking an Electrical Technician to join our team at Bicester Sewage Treatment Works. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install and repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment to keep sites operational with minimal supervision.

This role also involves standing by shifts and earning potential through overtime, with a strong emphasis on safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Time-served apprenticeship with experience in mechanical/electrical systems.
  • NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18th Edition preferred; training can be given.
  • Good problem solver capable of identifying issues and implementing solutions.
  • Excellent communicator with internal and external staff and contractors.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure health and safety compliance for yourself and others.
  • Undertake reactive and planned maintenance, respond to alarms, fault-finding.
  • Record work and asset information to improve performance and identify risks.
  • Provide technical advice and coach staff, including apprentices.
  • Deliver excellent customer experience with internal and external stakeholders.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an Electrical Technician to join our team at Bicester Sewage Treatment Works, OX25 2NY.

As the successful candidate, you will be using your electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair, as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician
  • Ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors by always displaying the correct behaviours, complying with the Health and Safety at Work Regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Undertaking both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault-finding to identify issues, fix these or escalating, planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily, installing new plant and equipment as required in line with current Standards and Regulations.
  • Record work and asset information to improve business performance along with identifying possible future risks and recommending changes in the course of your day-to-day work and to raise these for resolution as required.
  • Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate with up-to-date technical knowledge along with coaching, training and developing staff under your supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Deliver excellent customer experience and positively contribute to overall customer satisfaction. Interacting with all of our customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

Base Location: Bicester STW - OX25 2NY

Working Pattern: 38 Hours, Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, plus Standby rota

payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

All PPE, tools, a company van and a fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical / electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18th Edition preferred but training can be given
  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalating if required.
  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in many different teams showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.
