Job summary

Alexander Mann Solutions - Contingency in Derby offers a 12-month contract as an Electrical Systems Modelling Engineer. You will work with a team to model, simulate and validate electrical systems powering future airborne platforms in a cutting-edge defence environment.

You will develop models, analyse power networks, and support integration activities while communicating findings to engineering stakeholders. The role requires MATLAB/Simulink expertise and eligibility for SC clearance.

Qualifications

  • Experience modelling electrical power generation, distribution or control systems.
  • Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or similar.
  • Strong experience using MATLAB, Simulink and Simscape.
  • Eligible for SC Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical system models and simulations to support design decisions.
  • Analyse electrical networks, power quality, voltage stability, protection systems and fault behaviour.
  • Support electrical system integration activities through modelling and analysis.
  • Validate system performance and support hardware/software verification.
  • Develop modelling methods, simulation approaches and engineering best practice.
  • Produce technical reports and communicate findings to stakeholders.

Job description - the role

This is an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Systems Modelling Engineer to work on cutting-edge defence technology, helping to model, simulate and validate the electrical systems that will power future airborne platforms. Working within a team of simulation experts, the Electrical Systems Modelling Engineer will support the design, integration and validation of complex electrical systems through advanced modelling, simulation and analysis. This is a highly innovative R&D environment where the Electrical Systems Modelling Engineerwill influence future technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop electrical system models and simulations to support system design and architecture decisions.
  • Analyse electrical networks, power quality, voltage stability, protection systems and fault behaviour.
  • Support electrical system integration activities through modelling and analysis.
  • Validate system performance and support hardware and software verification activities.
  • Develop modelling methods, simulation approaches and engineering best practice.
  • Produce technical reports and communicate findings to engineering and programme stakeholders.
Required Experience
  • Experience in a similar role modelling electrical power generation, distribution or control systems.
  • Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or similar.
  • Strong experience using MATLAB, Simulink and Simscape.
  • Ability to make sound engineering assumptions and interpret simulation results effectively.
  • Must be Eligible for SC Clearance
  • A solid understanding of:
  • Electrical power systems and networks
  • Power quality and stability
  • Fault analysis and protection systems
  • Power electronics and control systems
  • We will only accept workers operating via an Umbrella or PAYE engagement model.
