The project

You’ll be joining a live data centre expansion in Gloucester – a restructure and extension of an existing data hall on a 52‑week programme, with completion targeted for mid‑Jan 2025. You’ll be on site full‑time, working alongside project managers, other site managers and a QS to help drive the electrical installation and commissioning over the final 4‑week period.

Key scope includes:

  • Replacement of existing generators with new units
  • New LV infrastructure (switchboards and distribution)
  • New HV transformer and diversion of existing HV supply
  • Coordination of electrical interfaces with new mechanical plant (chillers) and associated bases
  • Electrical works to internal steel frames, new rooms and modified building openings
  • Power and containment for raised access floors and mezzanine areas

M&E works on the project cover typical DC systems: mechanical cooling, AC, fire protection, BMS, containment, PDUs, cabling, comms, fire systems, etc. Your focus will be on the electrical side, ensuring safe, compliant and coordinated delivery.

What you’ll be doing (Electrical SM remit)
  • Taking ownership of day‑to‑day electrical delivery on site
  • Coordinating direct and sub‑contract electricians, labour, plant, materials and logistics
  • Overseeing installation of LV distribution, generators, HV/LV interfaces, containment and cabling
  • Ensuring works are sequenced, safe and aligned with programme and permit‑to‑work systems
  • Supporting testing, inspection and pre‑commissioning activities
  • Maintaining accurate records, site diaries, ITPs and compliance with company procedures
  • Liaising with the wider project team (PMs, QS, M&E leads, civils) to keep electrical works aligned with overall milestones
What you’ll need

You don’t need previous data centre experience, but you must bring:

  • Critical infrastructure background – e.g. pharma, hospitals, critical plant, high‑spec industrial/commercial
  • HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering / Building Services (or equivalent experience)
  • SMSTS
