Job summary

Biffa Waste Services is seeking an Electrical Shift Maintenance Engineer in the UK. You will perform electrical maintenance inspections and routine repairs across site assets, working within a small team and flexing to tasks beyond the role description.

The role requires hands-on maintenance on conveyors, belts, eddy current separators, and overhead cranes, with a 4 on/4 off 12-hour shift pattern and overtime paid at 1.5x. A strong focus on safety and continuous improvement is essential.

Qualifications

• Recognised Apprenticeship with electrical bias (multi-skilled).
• BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosis of running faults and effective repairs within minimum time.
• Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance practices.
• Carrying out plant upgrades and modifications to standards.
• Reporting work in the CMMS system.
• Develop and implement planned preventative maintenance programs.
• Anticipate machine failures and propose solutions to reduce downtime.
• Ensure SHEQ standards are maintained and documentation completed.
• Support management in driving a culture of motivation and contract targets.

Electrical Shift Maintenance Engineer

Salary: £48,048.00 per annum

4 on/4 off (days & nights) - 12 hours (6am - 6pm/6pm - 6am)

Overtime paid at 1.5 times

A Quick Look at the Role

In this role you will be responsible for primarily electrical maintenance inspections and routine repairs within all areas of the site to ensure utmost reliability and safety whilst reducing downtime events on critical assets. Working as part of a small team means flexibility is a must along with willingness to perform tasks outside of the role description.

Your Core Responsibilities:

• Diagnosis of running faults and ensuring effective repairs and improvements are conducted within minimum time scale
• Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance practices
• Carrying out plant upgrades and modifications to the required standards
• Reporting through computerised maintenance management system all work carried out
• Development and implementation of the programme of planned preventative maintenance and inspection to minimise downtime, provide records of recurrent faulting and engineered solutions to these issues
• Anticipate machine failures and make such changes or recommendations to prevent reoccurrence to reduce downtime to a minimum
• Ensuring SHEQ standards are strictly maintained, and all related documentation is completed
• Drive a culture / mind-set together with the management team that builds employee motivation and commitment and develop a contract team capable of overreaching the contract targets
• Assist the maintenance department in identifying annual lifecycle requirements, preparation of capital applications and business case papers for non-lifecycle capital purchases
• A proactive approach to fault finding and continuous improvement initiatives

Our Essential Requirements:

• Fit & active - the role involves a great deal of planned & reactive maintenance on conveyors, magnet belts, eddy current separators in enclosed/restricted spaces & working on overhead cranes (Working at Height).
• Recognised Apprenticeship, Electrical bias Multi Skilled Engineer with relevant qualifications ONC/BTEC NVQ 3 discipline level (Elec Bias)
• BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulation Qualifications
• Experience working on single and 3-phase AC and DC systems
• Waste Processing equipment knowledge preferable
• IT literate - comfortable using business software and systems
• Full UK car driving licence and live within a 20-mile radius of site
• Experience of FMCG type environment
