Job summary

The Barbican seeks an experienced Electrical Shift Engineer to join our high-profile commercial critical environment at Angel Court, City of London. You will maintain and operate essential building services on a 4-on, 4-off day shift (07:00-19:00), ensuring safety, reliability and client satisfaction.

You will work within a skilled engineering team, handle PPM and reactive maintenance, diagnose faults, and keep detailed records in CAFM.

Qualifications

• Proven experience working as an Electrical Engineer in a commercial or critical environment.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and maintenance capabilities.
• Qualified to 18th Edition, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Knowledge of LV distribution, plant and building services.
• Experience with client-facing roles.
• Understanding of health and safety and safe systems of work.
• Able to work independently and within a team.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to participate in the call-out rota.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Shift Engineer to join a high-profile commercial critical environment at Angel Court in the City of London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Electrical Engineer looking to work within a well-established engineering team, responsible for maintaining and operating critical building services while ensuring a safe, reliable and professional environment for the client.

Working on a 4-on, 4-off day shift pattern (07:00-19:00), you will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance across the building, responding to faults and ensuring all electrical systems remain operational and compliant.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the site.
• Diagnose and rectify electrical faults efficiently and safely.
• Maintain and monitor LV electrical distribution systems, switchgear, lighting and associated equipment.
• Carry out electrical isolations and switching in accordance with site procedures.
• Respond to alarms, breakdowns and building services issues.
• Support planned shutdowns, testing and maintenance activities.
• Complete maintenance records and update the CAFM system.
• Work closely with the wider engineering team and specialist contractors.
• Ensure all works are carried out in line with relevant health & safety procedures and electrical regulations.
• Assist with maintaining a high standard of compliance, documentation and engineering standards across the site.
• Participate in the 1 week in 4 call-out rota, responding to out-of-hours issues when required.

Requirements

• Proven experience working as an Electrical Engineer within a commercial building, critical environment or similar setting.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and maintenance experience.
• Relevant electrical qualifications, ideally 18th Edition and NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Good knowledge of LV distribution, electrical plant and building services.
• Experience working within a client-facing environment.
• A strong understanding of health & safety and safe systems of work.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of an engineering team.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to participate in the call-out rota.
