Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Electrical Building Services Engineer to design electrical building services for diverse UK buildings, including healthcare, commercial and education sectors.

You will deliver calculations, specifications, and reports, collaborating with BIM teams and stakeholders, attending site visits, and ensuring quality and governance standards while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards CEng via CIBSE/IET.
• Proven experience in electrical building services design in consultancy or contractor environments.
• Strong understanding of UK technical standards, BIM, and modern design practices.
• Knowledge of decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy solutions.
• Excellent communication, report writing, and client-facing skills.

• Design and specify electrical building services systems including power, lighting, earthing, life safety, telecoms, security, access control, lifts, and lightning protection.
• Produce detailed engineering calculations, technical specifications (NBS), reports and project documentation.
• Collaborate with BIM teams, GTC, and multidisciplinary stakeholders to deliver high-quality designs.
• Attend client and contractor meetings, undertake site surveys and monitor installation works.
• Manage project deliverables, budgets, timelines, risks and scope changes.
• Support development and mentoring of junior engineers.

Your role

• Design and specify electrical building services systems including power, lighting, earthing, life safety, telecoms, security, access control, lifts, and lightning protection.

• Collaborate with BIM teams, Global Technology Centre (GTC), and multidisciplinary stakeholders to deliver high-quality designs.
• Attend client and contractor meetings, undertake site surveys and inspections, and monitor installation works.
• Manage assigned project deliverables, budgets, timelines, risks, and scope changes.
• Ensure compliance with quality, environmental, and governance standards.
• Support the development and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Contribute to digital engineering, sustainability, innovation, and AI-driven design initiatives.

About you

• Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, with Chartered Engineer status (or working towards CEng via CIBSE/IET).
• Proven experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy or contractor design environment.
• Proficient in industry software including Amtech/ProDesign, Dialux/Relux, NBS, Microsoft Office, and ideally Revit and HV design tools.
• Strong understanding of UK technical standards, BIM, digital engineering, and modern design practices.
• Knowledge of decarbonisation, energy efficiency, building physics, carbon data analysis, commissioning, and performance evaluation.
• Experience or interest in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Photovoltaic (PV) design, and renewable energy solutions.
• Strong communication, report writing, presentation, and client-facing skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads independently, work within budgets and deadlines, and drive innovation in Revit, Digital Engineering, and AI.
