Electrical Project Engineer

About the Role

This position forms part of an expanding Minor Works Framework, a fast-paced and highly mobile programme of works where no two days are the same. The role demands a hands-on, adaptable engineer who can make professional, experience-based decisions while balancing client specifications, technical standards, and commercial objectives.

You'll be at the forefront of delivering essential electrical projects within the water sector — ensuring works are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality.

Key Purpose

To manage and coordinate all electrical project construction activities, ensuring project deliverables are achieved with respect to safety, quality, programme, and cost, while maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate, and support site teams and subcontractors, maintaining best-in-class safety performance.
  • Assemble and manage a competent project team; monitor individual and collective performance.
  • Implement and oversee management systems for design, procurement, manufacture, and installation of electrical components both on and off site.
  • Chair and record internal and external meetings, including site progress, safety, and design coordination sessions.
  • Collaborate with the commercial team on the procurement and management of subcontract packages.
  • Identify, coordinate, and manage third-party involvement where required.
  • Prepare accurate internal and external reports for project tracking and communication.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, design teams, and supply chain partners.
  • Resolve and close out technical and logistical issues promptly and effectively.
  • Prepare Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and company safety procedures.
Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Knowledge and understanding of IEE Regulations / BS 7671: Requirements for Electrical Installations.
  • Relevant CSCS card and SMSTS qualification.
  • NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant electrical or engineering discipline (ONC/HNC preferred).
  • Proven technical electrical knowledge in the water/utilities sector (clean and wastewater).
  • Experience managing NEC contracts.
  • Strong background in leading multidisciplinary site teams and managing subcontractors.
  • Proficient in IT and project management software.
  • First Aid at Work certification.
  • Experience writing RAMS and applying CDM Regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction programmes and produce monthly client updates.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience delivering works under a Minor Works or Framework Agreement.
  • Demonstrated success working in fast-moving, reactive environments.
  • Previous experience with Water Utility Companies or Tier 1/2 contractors.
