Job Description:

Role Overview

Proactive Personnel are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Project Engineer, based in Middleton. Our client is a successful manufacturing company with multiple sites across Greater Manchester that works in the textile industry.

This is a permanent role and requires a strong knowledge of electrical control systems and PLC control systems including Siemens. You will be required to both modify and in some instances rewrite programs when needed, including Wonderware InTouch SCADA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the full lifecycle electrical design and rebuild of quilt and pillow carding machines, integrating:
    • Siemens or Mitsubishi PLC platforms (S7/TIA Portal, GX Works)
    • SCADA/HMI systems using Wonderware InTouch
    • Eplan for professional electrical schematic design
  • Holiday cover for shift electrical engineers
  • Develop, optimise and troubleshoot 3-phase motor control systems, including start/stop, variable speed and directional control using both AC and DC inverter drives.
  • Design safety circuits and integrate advanced safety control systems (including relay logic and safety PLCs), ensuring compliance with the 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations and relevant safety standards.
  • Execute rapid diagnosis and resolution of electrical breakdowns using advanced root cause analysis and systematic fault-finding on: Safety circuits, Motor starters, overloads, soft starters, contactors, sensor systems (optical, inductive proximity, reed switches)
  • Work on inline metal detectors and their settings
  • Maintain and support various printing systems
  • Parameterise, commission, and maintain variable frequency drives (VFDs) and soft starters for dynamic process control applications.
  • Develop and modify robust, modular PLC code for process improvement initiatives, utilising structured programming techniques and implementing best practices for documentation and code management.
  • Build from scratch, configure, adapt, and expand SCADA/PLC interfaces to enhance process visualisation, real‑time data acquisition, and system diagnostics.
  • Produce and continually update detailed electrical drawings, control panel layouts, and system documentation to ensure traceability and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage multiple concurrent engineering projects, prioritising urgent breakdown response against longer‑term process improvement goals.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
  • Electrically time‑served: HNC (or higher) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • Siemens and Mitsubishi PLCs (programming, hardware integration, ladder logic, function block diagram)
  • SCADA systems, notably Wonderware InTouch (screen design, scripting, alarm management)
  • High‑level Eplan proficiency in electrical drawings
  • Advanced fault‑finding and electrical diagnostics in manufacturing automation
  • Safety circuit layout, SIL assessment, and machine safeguarding principles
  • Control panel design/build in accordance with CE/UKCA regulations and IEE wiring standards
  • Track record of process improvements through electrical engineering in high‑volume manufacturing
Desirable
  • Autonomous project and documentation management from requirements through commissioning
  • Support the business with accurate cost and project lead‑time forecasting.
  • Familiarity with modern safety PLCs and networked industrial safety solutions
  • Continuous improvement mindset, proactive problem‑solving, and a strong passion for technology‑driven change

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am- 4pm.
