EET (Essar Energy Transition) plays a major role in supplying the Northwest and the wider UK with essential fuels. We produce over 16% of the UK’s road fuels, supply key feedstocks to the petrochemical industry, and are investing heavily in low‑carbon energy solutions.
We work with major retail fuel brands, supermarkets, Manchester Airport, leading airlines, and regional transport operators. We are also a key partner in the HyNet project, helping to deliver the region’s low‑carbon future.
With over 900 skilled colleagues, we offer a strong safety culture, technically challenging work, and some of the best training in the energy sector.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Manager. You will be responsible to lead the safe, compliant and reliable operation of the refinery’s electrical systems, providing technical leadership and governance across all electrical engineering activities. Acting as the Site Electrical Technical Authority and Electrical Duty Holder, you will be responsible for electrical safety, engineering standards, technical assurance and asset integrity across a complex electrical network, including high-voltage distribution, on-site power generation and hazardous area installations.
You will drive statutory compliance, oversee competent-person arrangements, and develop risk-based maintenance and investment strategies to enhance plant availability, network resilience and long-term operational performance. Working closely with operations, maintenance and project teams, you will provide expert guidance on electrical engineering matters, supporting key business decisions while ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability and performance.
We are seeking a highly experienced electrical engineering professional with a degree or equivalent demonstrable competence in Electrical Engineering, together with Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional standing. You will bring recognised training and practical competence in high-voltage (HV) safety, switching operations and safe systems of work, with hazardous-area qualifications or experience such as CompEx being advantageous.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience within a major hazard, continuous process, or other safety-critical industrial environment, including operating as an Electrical Technical Authority, Electrical Duty Holder, or in a similar senior electrical engineering capacity with responsibility for electrical safety, statutory compliance and governance of complex HV and LV networks. Experience of industrial power generation and integration with high-voltage systems, including protection schemes, synchronisation, load shedding, power system studies, grid interfaces and network restoration, is highly desirable, along with a strong track record in electrical asset management, maintenance strategy development, reliability improvement, condition monitoring and lifecycle planning. You will possess a sound understanding of hazardous-area installations, project design reviews, management of change processes, shutdown planning, commissioning and operational handover activities. Strong leadership skills are essential, with the ability to manage teams and contractors, influence stakeholders, develop competence and drive performance.
The role requires visible safety leadership, excellent technical judgement and the confidence to challenge unsafe practices while making and communicating risk-based decisions. You will also demonstrate strong capabilities in incident investigation, root cause analysis, auditing and assurance, alongside commercial awareness and experience managing budgets, contracts and supplier relationships. Proficiency in SAP or a similar maintenance management system, together with robust engineering data and records management, is also required.
This vacancy will close on Friday 30th October 2026.
