Astutes Power Team – Electrical Technician (Power Station)

Astutes Power Team is working exclusively with Marchwood Power Limited, operating the Marchwood Gas Fired Power Station in Southampton, producing 900 MW in a Combined Cycle configuration.

Role Overview

The Electrical Technician is an integral role within the Maintenance department, responsible for short‑ and long‑term maintenance of all electrical assets and supporting projects and outages.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out pre‑planned and reactive maintenance on electrical assets including motors, transformers, switchgear, drives, and HV/LV plant.
  • Ensure maintenance plans and targets are achieved safely and within environmental parameters of the power station.
  • Work in line with maintenance techniques and best practices.
  • Assist in plant developments and projects.
  • Supervise and set to work site contractors.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records in the site CMMS.
  • Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination.

Professional Qualifications
  • Recognised electrical engineering apprenticeship ideally gained in a heavy process industry (e.g., power station, pharmaceutical plant, steelworks, paper mill, manufacturing).
  • HNC/ONC or equivalent in electrical engineering; advantageous.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulation.
  • HV Authorised Person status or high‑voltage experience; advantageous.
Personal Skills
  • Extensive knowledge and hands‑on experience maintaining electrical plant, including motors, switchgear, transformers, drives.
  • Practical knowledge of maintenance procedures and processes for heavy process industries.
  • Ability to carry out LV and HV isolations.
  • HV experience would be advantageous.
  • Competent in reading, interpreting and updating electrical drawings.
  • Competent with Permit to Work systems.
