Job summary

A well-established UK manufacturing business in the Cheshire area seeks a Shift Engineer to join the production team. You will maintain and repair production machinery, carry out planned maintenance, respond to breakdowns and support continuous improvement.

You will help uphold health and safety, housekeeping and reliability in a fast-paced plant environment. Responsibilities include equipment inspections, detailed maintenance records and proactive risk assessments.

Qualifications

• Experience in maintenance engineering or a similar role.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of production machinery and maintenance practices.
• Willingness to work a rotating shift pattern (6.00–14.00 or 14.00–22.00).

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on production equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Minimise downtime by working closely with production teams.
• Complete equipment inspections and maintenance records.
• Undertake risk assessments prior to maintenance activities.
• Support safe working practices and maintain a tidy work environment.

Your new role

As a Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing production machinery to ensure efficient plant operations. Working closely with production teams, you will carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), respond to breakdowns, conduct equipment inspections and support continuous improvement activities. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards of health and safety, housekeeping, and operational reliability within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What you'll need to succeed

• Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on production equipment.

• Completing equipment inspections and maintenance records.
• Undertaking risk assessments before maintenance activities.

You will also have:

• Previous experience in maintenance engineering or a similar role.
• Good fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of production machinery and maintenance practices.
• Flexibility to work a rotating shift pattern (either 6.00-14.00 or 14.00-22.00)
