Job description

Help bring a new generation of high-power-density converters from prototype into real-world applications.

Our client is developing power conversion technology for applications including AI computing, grid infrastructure, electric vehicles and renewable energy. Backed by deep-tech investors, the business is moving from research into its first commercial product and expanding its engineering team.

This opportunity would suit an electrical or mechatronics engineer with hands-on experience in hardware integration, testing or automation, who enjoys building prototypes, investigating faults and getting complete systems working reliably.

The role

You’ll help integrate power converters with customer hardware, control systems and software. Working across electrical, mechanical and software interfaces, you’ll support prototype builds, develop test arrangements and troubleshoot issues through to deployment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Integrating and testing power converters within wider customer systems.
  • Configuring and troubleshooting automated test benches and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
  • Supporting electrical wiring, harness integration, instrumentation and communication interfaces.
  • Diagnosing faults across hardware, firmware, software and connected systems.
  • Reviewing electrical schematics and installation drawings, and coordinating mechanical packaging and installation requirements.
  • Developing scripts and software interfaces to support testing, automation and operational data exchange.
  • Maintaining system interface documentation, test procedures and configuration records.
  • Supporting the development and deployment of manufacturing test equipment and processes as the product moves towards production.
What we’re looking for
  • A degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of relevant industry experience in hardware integration, prototype development, manufacturing test or engineering automation.
  • A practical understanding of electrical wiring, instrumentation and power electronics integration.
  • Experience using communication protocols such as CAN bus, Modbus or TCP/IP.
  • Programming or scripting skills in Python, C++ or C#.
  • Confidence reading electrical schematics and reviewing installation drawings in CAD environments.
  • A methodical approach to testing and fault-finding, with a willingness to work hands-on in the laboratory and manufacturing environment.
  • Practical exposure to software interfaces and data exchange, such as REST or SOAP APIs, webhooks and SQL databases.

An engineer from a mechanical background could also be suitable if they bring strong electrical integration, testing and programming experience.

Useful additional experience
  • Power electronics or high-density electronic systems.
  • Engineering change control and configuration management.
  • Data centre infrastructure and operations.
  • Taking test equipment, manufacturing processes or automation systems from concept into operation.
What’s on offer
  • Share options.
  • Contributory pension.
  • The opportunity to influence a new product and help establish how it is tested, manufactured and integrated into customer systems.
  • Scope for career progression as the business grows.
