Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 10 and above (currently £30,030 per annum / £16.50 per hour))

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee's first FULL month's salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

To provide an inspection and monitoring service for electrical engineering works carried out for the City Council.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
  • City and Guilds Qualification or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Served electrical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent on the job formal training.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
  • Ability to contribute to site meetings, issue directions (verbally & written) on site, maintain accurate records of information relating to construction contracts.
  • Ability to read and interpret accurately architectural and engineering drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
  • Confidence and assertiveness in dealing with contractors and consultants.
  • Full working knowledge of the current Electrical Engineering Regulations 18th Edition (BS7671: 2018).
  • Full working knowledge of the current Fire Alarm Regulations (BS 5839).
  • Full working knowledge of the current Emergency Lighting Regulations (BS 5839).
  • Practical knowledge of CCTV Systems, door entry controls and lift installations.
  • Working confidently on own initiative.
  • Resolving issues timeously.
  • Communicating information clearly and concisely.
  • Building effective and positive relationships with external contractors, clients, site personnel and engineering professionals.
  • Delivering good customer service.
