About the Role
A leading manufacturer of high-precision laser cutting, engraving, and marking systems is seeking an experienced Electrical Field Service Engineer to join their growing technical service team.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong electrical background, capable of fault-finding, installation, and maintenance of industrial machinery, while delivering a professional and customer-focused service.
Job Summary
The Electrical Field Service Engineer will be responsible for installing, servicing, and maintaining laser systems at customer sites across the region. The successful candidate will have excellent technical knowledge, problem‑solving skills, and a proactive attitude to customer support.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning:
- Carry out electrical installations and commissioning of laser systems at customer sites.
- Ensure compliance with electrical standards and all relevant health & safety procedures.
Maintenance & Repairs:
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on systems and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults, including control panels, PLCs, and drives.
- Replace or repair faulty wiring, components, and assemblies.
Customer Support & Training:
- Deliver technical training and support to customers on system operation.
- Provide clear technical advice and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Resolve service issues promptly and professionally.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Complete accurate service reports detailing work carried out and any follow‑up required.
- Maintain service logs and documentation for each customer visit.
Travel & Flexibility:
- Travel across the region (with occasional UK or international trips).
- Provide on‑call or out‑of‑hours support when required.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
- Recognised qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (NVQ, City & Guilds, HND, or equivalent).
- Proven experience in electrical fault diagnosis and repair.
- Strong understanding of AC/DC circuits, motors, drives, PLCs, and control systems.
- Competent with electrical testing equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, insulation testers).
- Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Desirable:
- Previous experience with laser systems, CNC, or industrial machinery.
- Knowledge of control systems (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.).
- Familiarity with 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
- Background in a field service or customer‑facing technical role.
