Job summary

Vantage Consulting is seeking an Estimating Engineer for a growing engineering business in the North East England region. You will prepare detailed cost estimates for LV switchgear projects, analysing drawings and specifications to produce competitive tenders.

You will work with sales, engineering and delivery teams to ensure estimates are accurate, commercially robust and ready for tender into complex electrical infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Understanding of LV switchgear and relevant industry standards.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
• Proficient in Excel and Word.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for LV switchgear and related electrical projects (materials, labour, overheads).
• Review project specs, drawings and customer requirements to produce competitive tender submissions.
• Collaborate with sales, engineering and project teams to ensure smooth tender-to-delivery transition.
• Analyze project scope to ensure estimates are technically accurate and commercially robust.
• Maintain estimating records, tender documentation and customer communications.
• Identify potential commercial and technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
• Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and systems.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Estimating Engineer to join a growing engineering business. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive and commercially viable quotations for electrical infrastructure and switchgear projects.

Working closely with sales, engineering and project delivery teams, you will analyse project specifications, interpret technical documentation and produce detailed cost estimates that meet both customer requirements and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Key Requirements

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience in an estimating or engineering role within the electrical engineering or switchgear sector.
• Experience working within a small to medium-sized engineering business.
• Good commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical and financial considerations.
