Job summary

H&MV Engineering is seeking an Electrical Design Team Lead to drive the design of high-voltage projects within our global engineering team. You will lead multi-disciplinary transmission and distribution designs, coordinate across electrical and civil disciplines, and report to the Engineering Manager/Director.

The role requires leading and managing an allocated design team, ensuring delivery to time, budget, and technical standards.

Qualifications

• Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years’ experience in HV contracting or utility environment.
• Proficient in ETAP, EPLAN and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the electrical requirements of assigned projects, ensuring resources are allocated and milestones met.
• Assign and coordinate work across Electrical Engineers to keep deliverables on track.
• Collaborate with civil designers to ensure electrical aspects meet requirements.
• Act as SPOC with utility providers and Owner’s Engineer.
• Manage design logs and procurement specifications for major HV plant.
• Review supplier documentation for compliance with technical specs.
• Approve HV layouts, systems, and single-line diagrams.
• Lead the design team to meet quality and programme standards.

About the Role

We are looking for an Electrical Design Team Lead to join our growing Engineering team and become the driving force behind our high-voltage projects.

You’ll be part of the design team for a range of multi-disciplinary Transmission & Distribution projects, both domestically and internationally.

The Electrical Design Team Lead is responsible for leading and managing the allocated design team and will report directly to the Engineering Manager / Engineering Director.

Key Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the electrical requirements of assigned projects, ensuring appropriate resources are allocated and projects run efficiently.
• Assign and coordinate work across Electrical Engineers, ensuring deliverables remain on track and aligned with project milestones.
• Work closely with civil designers to ensure civil aspects meet electrical equipment requirements.
• Act as the single point of contact (SPOC) with utility providers and the client’s Owner’s Engineer.
• Manage electrical and civil design logs from utility providers and the client’s Owner’s Engineer.
• Manage design pack submissions to utility providers and the client’s Owner’s Engineer.
• Prepare procurement specifications for major primary plant, including HV power transformers, HV circuit breakers, HV switchgear and NERs.
• Review supplier documentation and schematics to ensure equipment complies with technical and functional specifications.
• Take responsibility for the approval of physical HV layouts, electrical systems, secondary control and protection systems, and single-line diagrams.
• Review and approve HV system studies, including protection coordination, voltage regulation, load flow and fault-level reports.
• Attend utility provider and client Owner’s Engineer meetings as required.
• Lead and coordinate the design team to ensure projects are delivered to the required technical, quality and programme standards.

Key Requirements

• Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a similar role within an HV contracting or utility environment.
• Proficient in electrical design software, including ETAP, EPLAN and AutoCAD.
• Proven experience leading and managing teams, with strong people-management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines.
• A team-oriented professional who demonstrates initiative and takes ownership of delivering projects successfully.
• Strong technical knowledge of HV electrical systems and design.
• Proven ability to lead, manage and coordinate engineering teams.
• Strong organisational and project management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively across electrical, civil and wider project disciplines.
• High level of initiative, accountability and problem-solving ability.
