Job summary

Chemring Energetics UK Ltd is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead technical direction for safe, reliable electrical infrastructure on site. This role requires someone who can set and enforce standards, manage risk, and collaborate with engineering, maintenance and HSSE teams.

You will shape electrical safety practices, oversee HV/LV systems, and drive asset integrity across a busy plant while participating in capital projects and continuous improvements.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of UK electrical legislation and standards.
  • Experience with HV systems and electrical safety management.
  • Experience in hazardous area regulations (ATEX/DSEAR).
  • Experience in asset management, maintenance, or project delivery.
  • Ability to provide technical assurance and sound decisions.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Job description

Chemring Energetics UK is a global leader in the provision of energetic material-based equipment for defence, civil defence, and key commercial markets. We are now seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to join our team and provide technical leadership for the safe, reliable, and legally compliant operation of the site's electrical infrastructure.

As our Electrical Engineering Manager, you will take a key technical leadership role within the site, providing expertise and direction across electrical safety, HV/LV distribution, hazardous area compliance, asset integrity and engineering standards.

Reporting to the Head of Site Engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring the continued safety, reliability and compliance of the site's electrical systems, while also supporting exciting capital investment projects and driving improvements across our electrical infrastructure.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who enjoys working in a hands-on, technically challenging environment and wants to have a real impact. You will have the opportunity to shape electrical engineering standards across the site, influence investment decisions, improve asset reliability and work collaboratively with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations and HSSE teams.

Key Accountabilities & Duties
  • Take ownership of electrical engineering standards across the site, ensuring all activities comply with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, Company policies and procedures.
  • Act as the site's Electrical Duty Holder, or support the appointed Duty Holder, providing technical leadership for electrical safety management.
  • Own and manage the compliance of the site's High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) electrical distribution systems, ensuring statutory inspections, maintenance, testing and certification activities are completed effectively.
  • Develop, maintain and continuously improve electrical safety rules, safe systems of work, isolation procedures and permit-to-work standards.
  • Provide technical leadership for ATEX and hazardous area electrical compliance, ensuring installation, inspection and maintenance activities meet applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain the site's hazardous area equipment register and inspection programme, ensuring any deficiencies are appropriately assessed, prioritised and managed.
  • Lead electrical asset integrity activities to support the safe, reliable and compliant operation of critical electrical infrastructure and equipment.
  • Support reliability improvement initiatives, equipment failure investigations and root cause analysis, identifying opportunities to improve long-term performance.
  • Provide electrical engineering expertise across the site's capital investment programme, including design, specification, technical review and assurance.
  • Review and approve electrical design packages, ensuring they meet legislative, engineering, company and operational requirements.
  • Provide engineering oversight throughout project installation, commissioning, modification and handover activities.
  • Support Management of Change (MoC) processes, assessing the impact of proposed electrical changes on safety, compliance and plant reliability.
  • Manage electrical engineering contractors and specialist service providers, ensuring work is delivered safely, competently and to the required standards.
  • Establish and maintain technical standards, engineering procedures and specifications for electrical systems across the site.
  • Develop asset replacement and obsolescence management strategies for critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets associated with electrical compliance, asset integrity and maintenance programmes.
  • Lead investigations into significant electrical incidents, near misses and equipment failures, ensuring effective corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
  • Work collaboratively across Engineering, Maintenance, Operations and HSSE to promote a strong culture of electrical safety, asset care and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the site's electrical systems, processes and standards, helping to deliver greater reliability, efficiency and long-term value.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree (BEng/BSc) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong practical knowledge of UK electrical legislation, standards and industry best practice.
  • Experience working with High Voltage (HV) systems and electrical safety management.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous area regulations and ATEX/DSEAR requirements.
  • Experience in electrical asset management, maintenance, engineering or project delivery.
  • Ability to provide technical assurance and make sound engineering decisions.
  • Full UK driving licence.
